Bus
"In 1838 a group of Headingley residents got together to form a company to fund a horse-drawn omnibus between the village and the town on a regular basis ... It was the first suburban bus service in Leeds (Headingley still has the number 1 bus)."
(Eveleigh Bradford, Headingley, 2008)

With a cloth ear for historical significance (and without any public consultation), the private company running local bus services has ignored two centuries of pioneering public transport along Headingley Lane & Otley Road (see Suburban Omnibus below), and renumbered the Number One service; accidentally (and ironically) the new number, 24, commemorates the year (2024) when this historical vandalism was perpetrated.
Ride
Bus Service 25 or 26: from Headingley, the bus crosses the watershed from Airedale, through Bramhope, to Wharfedale; it runs to Otley, through Pool and beside the Wharfe (25), or along the slopes of Chevin Forest Park, with views of Lower Wharfedale (and North York Moors, on a clear day) (26); thence, the bus runs beside the Wharfe, to Ilkley. Change to 784, and continue by Addingham, with views of Ilkley Moor, and from there, below Skipton Moor, with views towards Upper Wharfedale, on to Skipton.
